When it comes to marijuana legalization, the whole world is turned towards Canada since it is expected to be the next big country to make cannabis a legal substance even for recreational use. So, what can Canada learn from its neighbor south of the border when it comes to driving high and what are their similarities regarding drunk driving?
When one government wants to make marijuana available and legal for everyone, there are a few very important aspects that need to be addressed. On this long path to marijuana legalization, one serious thing that stands out is driving under the influence of the substance.
As more and more US states are voting in favor of legal cannabis, the issue of driving high had to be solved. That’s why Colorado, and later Washington, made the regulation allowing pushing under the influence of cannabis with five nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood.
If a person gets caught driving with more amount of the primary substance of marijuana, the driver will be charged with DUI. So, as Canada gets closer to legalizing marijuana, government officials are visiting the US states to learn from their experience with the process.
However, we’ll have to wait for the spring to see if the US example can serve as a proper model for marijuana laws.
