Angiogenesis is the physiological process through which new blood vessels form from pre-existing vessels, formed in the earlier stage of vasculogenesis. Angiogenesis continues the growth of the vasculature by processes of sprouting and splitting.
Recent studies have shown that cannabinoids can affect other important processes in tumourigenesis, in particular angiogenesis. Angiogenesis represents an essential part of tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis and constitutes a therapeutic target for cancer therapy. Some study reveals that CBD inhibits angiogenesis by multiple mechanisms. Its dual effect on both tumor and endothelial cells supports the hypothesis that CBD has the potential as an effective agent in cancer therapy.
