An excise tax is a business tax specifically for cannabis products that is passed on to the customer. All legal recreational cannabis sales must include an excise tax which is collected quarterly by the government to be used for various initiatives such as mental health treatment, substance abuse programs, environmental efforts, and cannabis research.
