Climate plays a major role in choosing the proper greenhouse for your region, there are many different designs that you can choose from when growing cannabis.
Some are better for use in heavy snowing regions, and others are better built to withstand strong winds. Greenhouses can be either attached to an existing building or be free-standing to begin growing cannabis.
A simple window-mount ‘greenhouse’ can replace an existing window in your house, or workshop for the barn. This is a low-cost way to start seeds and small plants, though, with growth in these, you may run the risk of having a neighbor or passer-by see your small plants in your window.
Lower-profile greenhouses are great for producing small plants, much like the sea of green. If you can afford the option, you can create an “earth-bermed” (earthen or earth-sheltered) greenhouse.
Building a greenhouse that is mostly underground will help heat the plants naturally, reducing heating costs, withstand strong winds and storms, and create a low profile from above while still having a full-height ceiling.
Small Structures and Cold Frames
Small greenhouses and cold frames also work well in places that don’t have the yard space to build. They can be placed on patios, balconies, and rooftops as well as another option that you have is to build an even span attached to the house.
The even span is like a window mount, lean-to, but much larger. These are much like having a conservatory attached to your house so with these you have the added security of plants being close to home.
A drawback of an even span is that they can be more expensive to heat and maintain. When choosing a greenhouse for your garden, many types of framing are available for purchase.
Most commercial greenhouses are made of steel or aluminum and there are a few kits for wood ones you can purchase. Metal frames tend to be more expensive than wood, though these are more fire-resistant than wood.
Some kits are very simple and easy to assemble as they are built into panels or units; other kits are all in pieces waiting to be assembled. Pick the one that best suits your needs, area, and budget to start growing cannabis.
