The vegetative state refers to the growing phase of the cannabis plants characterized by the establishment of a solid root system and full leaf development in preparation for the flowering stage. The vegetative cycle of a cannabis plant takes about 4 – 6 weeks depending on plant strain and the surrounding environment. Growing plants should have access to at least 18 hours of light in a 24-hour cycle to maximize photosynthesis to produce as much leafy foliage as possible. The vegetative stage is also an ideal time to get clones if you are interested in a particular strain.
