Under the law, patients can possess cannabis for medicinal purposes, and the USVI is in the process of setting up a regulated system for dispensaries and cultivation. The law allows for the cultivation of cannabis for personal use by registered patients, though recreational cannabis remains illegal.
The territory has faced some delays in implementing the medical cannabis program, but efforts are underway to establish a functional market. There is also growing support for the legalization of recreational cannabis, with Governor Bryan expressing interest in using cannabis revenue to boost the local economy and address budget shortfalls. As the USVI continues to develop its cannabis industry, it is poised to become a leader in cannabis reform in the Caribbean.\”
