An act of violence is the attempt (coupled with the ability), or actual use of force of violence with the intent to threaten, harass, intimidate, commit a violent injury, or damage/destroy property. Acts of violence can be divided into three broad categories according to who the perpetrators and victims are of violent acts namely, self-directed violence, interpersonal violence, and collective violence. These categories may be further divided into specific types of violence which include physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence and neglect.
