\”In Connecticut, cannabis reform has progressed significantly in recent years. The state legalized medical cannabis in 2012, and it has developed a robust medical cannabis program that allows patients with qualifying conditions to access cannabis through licensed dispensaries. In June 2021, Governor Ned Lamont signed Senate Bill 1201, legalizing recreational cannabis use for adults over 21. This new law permits adults to possess up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis in public and up to 5 ounces at home. Additionally, Connecticut allows residents to cultivate up to six plants for personal use, although cultivation remains limited to medical patients until 2023.
The state’s cannabis regulations are designed with a focus on social equity, aiming to ensure that communities disproportionately affected by past cannabis prohibition have opportunities to participate in the industry. Connecticut’s market is still in its early stages, with recreational cannabis sales expected to launch soon. The state is establishing comprehensive licensing and regulatory frameworks to guide the industry’s growth while emphasizing responsible consumption and community health.\”
