Dispensing organization agents will gain a comprehensive understanding of cannabis industry workplace hazards ensure operational excellence and enhance preparedness for IDFPR inspections when adhering to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) worker safety standards. This training also addresses the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and working with medical patients ensures compliance with federal healthcare laws.
This certification delivers advanced cannabis industry knowledge that every single dispensary organization agent must understand throughout their daily duties and responsibilities to meet professional standards mandated for IDFPR compliance. Advanced safety topics include fire safety to equip agents with preventive measures and emergency response protocols tailored to cannabis dispensing operations. Cannabis dispensing organization agents will learn foundational knowledge on how to handle cannabis safely and product storage that aligns with Illinois’s legal requirements to maintain compliant cannabis dispensary operations.
This certification intends to make compliance easy plus guarantee agents are equipped for professional interactions with consumers compliantly from the dispensary’s Point-of-Sale (POS) to the state’s cannabis verification system. It also covers proper dispensary operations for different aspects of the cannabis industry so agents understand their specific roles. In addition, dispensing organizations are responsible for keeping detailed records of all training provided to agents since records will have IDFPR audits to ensure 8-hour annual training requirement.

Every owner, manager, employee, or agent involved in cannabis handling and selling products are required to complete at least eight (8) hours of annual Illinois Responsible Vendor Training (RVT) training to meet these legal requirements, cannabis dispensing organizations must keep compliance training records that are reviewed by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) audits under the Illinois Cannabis Regulation & Tax Act (410 ILCS 705/15-40(i)) & Section 15-65(a)(5).
- Training of dispensing organization agents in the provisions of the Act & rules, to effectively operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system and the Illinois' verification system, proper inventory handling and tracking, specific uses of cannabis or infused products, instruction regarding regulatory inspection preparedness & law enforcement interaction, awareness of the legal requirements for maintaining status as an agent & other topics as specified by the dispensing organization or the IDFPR (Section 15-65(a)(5)).
- The dispensing organization shall maintain evidence of all training provided to each agent in its files that is subject to inspection & audit by the IDFPR (Section 15-65(a)(5)).
- The dispensing organization shall ensure agents receive a minimum of 8 hours of training subject to the requirements in subsection (i) of Section 15-40 annually, unless otherwise approved by the IDFPR (Section 15-65(a)(5)).
