Michigan Responsible Vendor Certification
The Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (MRA) and the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA) require certain training for workers in the cannabis industry. These requirements vary depending on the type of job an individual holds.
For example, employees working in a cannabis facility (such as a grower, processor, or retailer) must complete a state-approved “Marijuana Industry Worker” training course. This course covers topics such as state laws and regulations, safety and security procedures, and responsible marijuana use.
Additionally, the MRA and MRTMA also require “Designated Responsible Parties” (DRPs) to complete a separate training course. DRPs are typically the owners or managers of a cannabis facility and are responsible for ensuring that the facility is operated in compliance with state laws and regulations. The DRP training course covers topics such as compliance, record-keeping, and security.
The Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (MRA) has established certain compliance training topics that must be covered by facilities and establishments in the cannabis industry. These training topics are outlined in the MRA’s Administrative Rules and include the following:
- State laws and regulations related to the cannabis industry, including the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA) and the MRA’s rules and policies.
- Safety and security procedures, including measures to prevent diversion, theft, and other criminal activity.
- Responsible marijuana use, including information on the potential health effects of marijuana use and the risks associated with driving under the influence of marijuana.
- Procedures for handling and disposing of waste, including waste associated with marijuana plants and products.
- Record-keeping and inventory control procedures, including requirements for tracking the movement of marijuana plants and products throughout the facility.
- Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable laws and regulations.
Procedures for handling customer complaints and reporting them to the MRA. - Procedures for handling and disposing of marijuana plants and products that are found to be unsafe or contaminated.
- Employers are required to maintain records of their employees’ compliance training, and to make these records available to the MRA upon request.
