Fed/OSHA 30-Hour General Industry (Cannabis-Specific)

This Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-Hour General Industry Training is facilitated by our team of experienced Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainers. Our certification curriculum focuses on the hazards commonly found specifically within the cannabis industry (not OSHA standards). All workers in the cannabis industry – who cultivate, manufacture, distribute, test products, etc. – must protect themselves from hazards found in the workplace.

Most industries fall under OSHA jurisdiction, and all cannabis industry businesses must comply with regulations and recordkeeping requirements. In addition to the OSHA regulations, cannabis businesses are required to comply with all of those other regulations that are specific to employment and any commercial cannabis production. Fed/OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training is intended to help assist cannabis operations with creating occupational safety and health programs.

Our certification introduces policies, procedures, and standards that guide safety and health principles commonly implemented in the cannabis industry. While the foundation of this training includes existing OSHA regulations, it should be noted that cannabis compliance requirements are ever-evolving so it’s possible new safety topics are not covered. Topics include industrial hygiene, body ergonomics, walking and working surfaces, fall protection, hazard communication, electrical safety, emergency action plans, and recordkeeping and reporting requirements.

A United States Department of Labor (DOL) Card – commonly referred to as an “OSHA Card” or “OSHA Completion Card” – will be physically mailed upon learner completion of this training. It is the official DOL card that is issued to learners who have completed an authorized 30-Hour OSHA General Industry Training. Anyone who completes the training, learners will earn the “OSHA Completion Card” and three (3) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) verifiable certificates and a digital badge.

The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) is internationally recognized and established the measurement for non-credit continuing education activities. The IACET has defined that three (3) CEUs equals thirty (30) hours of training “contact time” that is required for all enrolled learners. For example, the OSHA 30-hour equivalency course counts as continuing education units (CEUs). This course is accepted for 5.01 Industrial Hygiene CM Points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) and 3 Continuance of Certification (COC) points from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).

Remember, to complete the “Whitelist Instructions” for our email address. You want to be sure that you are receiving our emails otherwise, you might NOT get your certificate and other cool things, they’re all sent via email so be sure you receive them!

To log into your account, go to the “Training Login” (click here) on our platform and access the live event you’re enrolled in our Learning Management System (LMS). Put simply, the LMS dashboard is your “homepage” where you have an overview of your training and any activities which may require attention, so you know what to do to continue learning.

If you cannot log in, you can RESET your password from the “Lost your password?” option on our platform if you do not remember your password or forgot the email address you registered your account under. You should have received a welcome email after registering on our platform and it contains account details with all your login information.

Lastly, check your calendar too. There are two (2) different ways that you could have possibly ADDED the live event to your calendar (ex. Google Calendar, Outlook, etc.):

  1. We enable the attach calendar “.ICS file” to your ticket for the live event and this attaches an “.ICS” file to email notifications so the event automatically appears on your calendar.
  2. We enabled the ability “Add to Calendar” option on your live event ticket that’s sent via email for your training. These notifications have an “.ICS file” so when you click the “Add to Calendar” button in the email and it will immediately save the “.ICS file” to your calendar.

Maybe you haven’t used Zoom before… even if you don’t work from home, you’ve probably heard of Zoom. The video-conferencing app has become the STANDARD for connecting with others face-to-face virtually in both business and personal settings. Zoom is now the video communication platform of choice for federal governments, tech startups, different religious communities, and just people looking to chat – even party – with their friends and family so it’ll depend on the type of computer you’re using and the process may be slightly different.

Zoom is a cloud-based video communications app that allows us to set up virtual video and audio-conferencing, webinars, live chats, screen-sharing, and other collaborative training capabilities. You don’t need an account to attend a Zoom meeting, and the platform is compatible with Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android, meaning nearly anyone can access it. In short, a big part of Zoom’s APPEAL is because of the simplicity of using the platform.

It’s easy to get started, the app is lightweight, and the interface is relatively intuitive to use with popular features like “Gallery View” – a mode that allows our moderators to see every person on the training – built right into the app. It’s SIMPLE to download it whether on your computer or your mobile device and the platform is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android mobile devices through the App Store and Google Play Store, respectively. If you plan on using your computer, you’ll want to go to Zoom’s website and download it now (click here).

Show up fifteen (15) minutes early! Our goal is to provide our learners with an outstanding training experience. In order for us to deliver on our learning OBJECTIVES, make sure you have addressed the technical requirements needed on your end to help ensure the highest possible quality experience when you attend our online Zoom meeting for upcoming events.

We have found the Zoom platform currently the most robust platform for delivering online training to our standards. It is helpful that learners are familiar with Zoom to help them INTERACT with the instructor during the training. We have a video that has been provided by Zoom below for you to become familiar with the platform to prepare for your live event.

Zoom Meeting Overview

Device & Access

Our desire is for each learner to have direct communication with our instructor during this training. In order for this to occur, we REQUEST that every learning to login into the Zoom training individually, on their own desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or even smartphone so:

  1. Verify that your computer, laptop, etc. have BOTH audio & webcam/video capability.
  2. Prepare a dedicated learning space that is 100% free from ANY distractions.
  3. Optimize your Internet connection by plugging DIRECTLY into the modem (if possible).
  4. Log in to Zoom from a location that will provide a RELIABLE Internet connection.
  5. Keep your device powered up since training can LAST up to seven (7) hours each day.

There is tons of functionality… Zoom’s meeting controls allow you to manage various aspects of your live event when you attend. These features allow moderators to SHARE hosting privileges with our authorized trainers, allowing them to manage the “training side” of the online Zoom meeting, such as managing learners or starting and stopping the recording. The following shows the controls available to you in the online Zoom meeting.

Yes! One of the biggest challenges that learners face today is “accessibility” within their eLearning solutions and why we started our “Industry Impact Program” (click here) to make this change. Unlike most of our competitors (which do have great content), we are VERY different and sensitive to disabilities so we provide Closed-Captioning (CC) for those who are hearing-impaired and screen readers for individuals visually impaired who want to learn.

Closed-Captioned (CC)

Zoom has a variety of options for creating closed captioning in your meetings and webinars, which provides subtitles of the spoken in-meeting communications. This may be used for learners to more easily follow the conversations, or to MEET accessibility requirements. In meetings, the host or another meeting attendee assigned by the host can provide manual captioning, an integrated third-party Closed-Captioning (CC) service can provide the captioning, or Zoom’s live transcription feature can automatically provide you captions.

Unless requested, we do provide captioning manually or with a third-party service since our live transcription feature is also available but has limitations to take note of. Live event transcriptions are currently only supported in English and the accuracy of the Closed-Captioning (CC) feature DEPENDS on numerous variables, such as but not limited to:

  • Background noise and Internet connectivity-issues AFFECTING the audio quality
  • Volume and CLARITY of the trainer’s voice while they’re presenting the training
  • Our trainer’s proficiency with English being their NATIVE spoken-language
  • Lexicons and dialects that OCCUR in specific geographic areas or communities

Because of these limitations, if you are required to use speech-to-text support for ANY compliance or accessibility needs when attending our live events, we always recommend contacting us about using a manual captioner or service that will guarantee specific accuracy.

No… if you are attending any of our Fed/Cal-OSHA General Industry Training then you can NOT attend via your phone (only if no other device is available then rare exceptions are made, but you must have a dedicated “learning space” that is quiet with no distractions).

We have had learners try to “attend” our Fed/Cal-OSHA General Industry Training via their smartphones while in the car and traveling in the past (yes, they were actually driving their cars). This is NOT allowed by OSHA’s regulatory requirements and your web camera/video is required to be turned on the entire time during your training so it is easy for our training moderators to determine if you’re engaged in the online Zoom meeting and actively learning.

If we find that you are not in a dedicated space and “present” during the training (ex. driving your car, talking to others around you, etc.) then we will remove you from the Zoom meeting and a refund will NOT be issued. And you will be required to 100% completely restart your government compliance training, we don’t want this happening so don’t break these rules.

One reason: government compliance requirement… when you attend any of OSHA training you are required to keep your webcam/video ON during the entire time and to stay on mute unless sharing to eliminate background noise. There are two (2) ways to join meeting audio, by joining via computer or joining via telephone (watch the video below to test your audio before joining a meeting) or you can also join a “test” online Zoom meeting to familiarize yourself with the controls.

Zoom Meeting Audio/Video Controls

Due to government compliance requirements… the moderator guides and fuels discussions by being present and active. If the compliance training is a one-way communication, where learners post questions or comments and they fall into the void of the internet, learners will stop using it. The GOAL is to encourage learners to be actively engaged in the online Zoom meeting and the moderator will take a back seat while monitoring webcams and/or video.

Government compliance training requires our moderators to make sure you’re physically visible on your webcam/video, etc. since it is mandated by OSHA regulatory compliance. Good compliance training programs help to PREVENT poor conduct and ensure proper governance in our training. This helps to minimize risk, maintain our reputation and it will provide you with better training that benefits workplace safety and productivity in the long run.

Some bad news here… if you’re late or miss any part of your Fed/Cal-OSHA General Industry Training, you will be dismissed from the live Zoom training, and NO refund will be issued. If you never attend (aka “no show”) or miss mandated “contact time” then no refund is issued.

So if you know that you’re going to be missing any part of the training beforehand, then you have seven (7) days before the training “start date” to receive a refund with a 25% FEE due to cancellation. For example, if you canceled on January 1st and the scheduled live event is happening on January 8th then you receive 75% of your enrollment tuition refunded back.

If you cancel less than seven (7) days before the “state date” of the government compliance training then you will be issued a 50% refund and we apologize for this inconvenience. But due to the HIGH costs of delivering our Fed-Cal/OSHA General Industry training on our end, along with the physical “OSHA Completion Card” that we ship learners, dedicated time from our authorized trainers, etc. which is why we must have a cancellation fee policy in-place.

The refund amount varies… we understand that “life happens” and things can change. Scheduling conflicts may include unexpected meetings or other work obligations, absence from the usual workplace, personal or family illness, jury duty, etc. In case of death in the family, an unexpected call to military duty, state or national emergency, or natural disaster, every attempt will be made to ACCOMMODATE the learner and/or your organization.

You can always request a refund and you will receive a refund minus administration fees if you request it before the MINIMUM required time before the scheduled “start date” (see below) otherwise the refund will be 50% of the total tuition paid. If a registered learner never attends (aka “no show”) or misses any of the required hours of “contact time” during the live event, they will be required to completely re-start the live event and no refund is ever issued.

Live Virtual Training (Zoom Webinar)

  • 7-Days Before the “Start Date”If you wish to cancel your “Live Virtual Training”, you will receive a partial refund and an administrative fee of 25% of the total enrollment tuition that was paid will be levied if we receive the request seven (7) days notice BEFORE the online Zoom meeting “start date”.
  • Within 7-Days of the “Start Date”If you cancel a “Live Virtual Training” seven (7) days or less PRIOR to the event’s “start date” will result in a 50% refund for each individual total enrollment tuition that has been paid.

Classroom-Based Training (Instructor On-Site)

  • 30-Days Before the “Start Date”If your organization has scheduled a “Classroom-Based Training” where an instructor is traveling to deliver on-site at your specified location in thirty (30) or greater days prior to the event’s “start date” you will receive a full refund. But we do levy an administrative fee of $497.00 USD that will be deducted from your refund along if any additional costs were incurred to cover the instructor’s travel, preparation, lodging, and any per diem expenses.
  • Within 30-Days of the “Start Date”If you must cancel a “Classroom-Based Training” within thirty (30) days of the event’s “state date” will result in a 50% refund of the total invoice paid along if any additional costs were incurred to cover the instructor’s travel, preparation, lodging and the per diem expenses.

Yes! Just register to be on the waitlist and then you will be notified if an open seat becomes available you will need to IMMEDIATELY register since everyone on the waitlist will be notified and you miss out on RSVP’ing your spot, also check out some future dates where we may be offering the live event again on our calendar. Our waitlist functionality allows you to sign up so you’re notified by email when an out-of-seats live event becomes available again.

When a live event is switched from “No Seats” status to “Seats Available,” or when even availability increases past a set limit, we will send all learners on the waiting list an email informing them that the live event has seats available, with a direct link to the live event to immediately enroll. Once this email is sent, our waitlist functionality REMOVES all learners from the waiting list for the specific live event. If the live event is subsequently switched back to “No Seats” or someone else on the waitlist enrolls before you have a chance, either way, the waiting list will be emptied and you need to immediately sign-up for the waitlist again.

Coupon code discounts do not work for live events… we do NOT provide discounts on any live events because our instructor’s time is extremely valuable when putting on training.

There are currently twenty-two (22) “OSHA State Plans” covering BOTH private sector and state and local government workers, and there are six (6) “OSHA State Plans” covering only state and local government workers. State Plans are monitored by OSHA and must be at least as effective as OSHA in protecting workers and in preventing their work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths.

Yes! Yet… it VARIES so much. As our instructors are Authorized Training Provider (ATP) we offer both the Fed/OSHA and Cal/OSHA General Industry Training, which are different. All employers in the cannabis industry, including those who cultivate, manufacture, distribute, sell, and test cannabis products, must take steps to PROTECT their workers from all health and safety hazards associated with their work.

Our status as ATP also demonstrates that we go beyond a simple benchmarking exercise by providing consistently excellent training.

Each training is approved by an OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) and regulations to ensure you are provided quality training.

Federal-OSHA Authorized Trainer Requirements

To be eligible… to become an Authorized Federal-OSHA (Fed/OSHA) Trainer a person must, at a minimum, meet the following prerequisites which require both training and experience:

1) Five (5) Years Safety Experience

  • Please note that “working safely” in the industry does not meet the industry safety experience requirement. A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene from an accredited university, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation, in the applicable training area, may be substituted for two (2) years of direct experience.

2) OSHA General Industry Training

  • To meet Authorized OSHA Trainer eligibility requirements, the OSHA #511 General Industry Occupational Safety and Health Standards must be completed that covers all standards required by the OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC).

Experience cannot be substituted for the training prerequisite component and OSHA does NOT issue waivers for these prerequisites. After satisfying the prerequisites, a person must complete OSHA #501 Trainer Course for the Fed/Cal-OSHA for General Industry. This includes knowledge and performance-based tests, BOTH of these must be completed.

To remain current on relevant OSHA matters and ensure quality training, OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainers are REQUIRED to complete the OSHA #503 Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers course every four (4) years. The OSHA #501 General Industry Trainer Course provided by OSHA may also be used to maintain a trainer’s authorized status.

California-OSHA Authorized Trainer Endorsement

The California-OSHA (Cal/OSHA) Standards for General Industry were developed for the Code of Regulations (Title 8) General Industry standards and compliance. The OSHA-5119 Course also provides existing Authorized Federal-OSHA (Fed/OSHA) Trainers a specific ENDORSEMENT authorizing to teach 10- and 30-Hour Cal/OSHA General Industry Training.

Cal/OSHA and Fed/OSHA established a partnership wherein Authorized Federal Outreach Trainers, who FULFILL additional eligibility requirements, can also teach Federal 10 and 30-Hour General Industry Training based upon the California Code of Regulations (Title 8).

Tons! Our Fed/Cal-OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Training is intended to provide entry-level workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job-related hazards specifically for the cannabis industry. Our cannabis-specific curricula cover a VARIETY of safety and health hazards that a worker may encounter while working specifically in the industry.

The training emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention in the cannabis industry (so don’t worry about those “boring” standards). The training “contact time” must be a minimum of ten (10) hours of training time and the topics as follows:

Tons! Our Fed/Cal-OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training is intended to provide a variety of training to workers and supervisors in the cannabis industry with safety responsibilities. Our training emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention that you’ll FIND in the cannabis industry (don’t worry about all those “boring” OSHA safety standards).

The California Business and Professions Code mandate that cannabis licensees require employers with two (2) or more workers must ensure one (1) supervisor and one (1) employee to complete a Cal-OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training. Our Authorized Trainers are approved by the Cal/OSHA training to ensure compliance that’s required by the OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC). Training time must be a minimum of thirty (30) hours of training “contact time” and meet all the minimum topics as follows:

Mandatory Training Topics (12 Hours)

As soon as possible… our Authorized Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Trainers grant learners their official Department of Labor (DOL) “OSHA Completion Card” after successful completion of their training. The DOL provides cards to authorized trainers to issue to learners who complete one of our Authorized OSHA Trainer’s programs.

The 10-Hour and 30-Hour “OSHA Completion Cards” can only be issued by an Authorized OSHA Trainer and are the property of the learner who completed the training. Since these cards must be processed through the Department of Labor, cards can take up to ninety (90) days to be delivered (DOL is sometimes delayed mailing cards). We immediately provide a certificate of completion and a digital badge available for immediate download so learners can use this as temporary proof until your official “OSHA Completion Card” arrives via mail.

Easily! Each certificate is assigned a unique alphanumeric code. This unique code is printed at the bottom right of your certificate. You can VERIFY your certificate either by using the “Verify Tool” (click here) or by scanning our “QR Code” using your mobile phone’s camera.

Remember, that you can always access your issued certificate(s) from your account in our LMS, under the “More” section (click here) in your profile. It is possible that you may complete several pieces of training – each with their OWN certificate – it would be time-consuming to visit every training to download all your certificates that have been issued.

To avoid this, on your profile, you can view all the certificates that have been issued to you. Go to your profile page under “Miscellaneous” and click on “My Certificates” which will take you to all your ISSUED certificates and you can simply download them all at one (1) time.

Note: We verify our Fed/Cal-OSHA General Industry Training was conducted in accordance with the Authorized OSHA Trainer Program requirements. Completion will be documented with OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) and upon successful review of your training records, learners’ “OSHA Completion Card” will be immediately issued via mail.

You can easily share your digital badge on Facebook, Twitter, etc. and there are two (2) different ways you can share with LinkedIn – as a post to your profile’s “Feed” or to the “Certifications” section.   1. In the user menu (top right), select “Preferences,” then “Backpack Settings” under “Badges” (click here) in your account on our platform.
  2. Enter your Badgr user account email and password.
  3. Look in your mailbox for a verification email so you can copy and paste the link to verify the connection to your account on our platform.

You can share badges on social media (click here) from the “Award Email” you receive or from your backpack since it provides ways to SHARE badges (“URL Link” and “Embed Code”).

No! An “OSHA Completion Card” that can simply be purchased isn’t WORTH the paper it’s printed on. That’s why our training is challenging. If we’re going to allow you to receive your card, you better believe you’re going to have to apply yourself to earn it! We have to certify that we conducted this training in accordance with the Fed/Cal-OSHA training requirements and we have to maintain the training records and provide records to OSHA upon request.

We will physically mail you your United States Department of Labor (DOL) issues official “OSHA Completion Card” to learners who complete authorized both Fed/Cal-OSHA General Industry Training with a passing grade of seventy percent (70%) or higher. The DOL provides cards to trainers they issue to the learners who complete OSHA training. “OSHA Completion Cards” can only be issued by an Authorized OSHA Trainer and are the learner’s property.

Since these cards must be processed through the Department of Labor, cards can take up to ninety (90) days to be delivered. Green CulturED offers a temporary completion certificate available for immediate download so learners can use this temporary certificate as proof of their successful training completion until the “OSHA Completion Card” arrives in the mail.

Yes! But it depends on the live event type… the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) provides organizations guidance for conducting continuing education and training to benchmark Green CulturED’s current operations to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved IACET continuing education and training standards. IACET’s mission is to promote and enhance quality in all continuing education through the continuous improvement of all of the IACET criteria, principles, and standards.

According to IACET’s standards, one (1) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) equals ten (10) contact hours of learner interaction with the content of the learning activity, which includes classroom, self-paced training, pre/post assignments, and/or homework in support of a learning outcome. So, for example, our OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Training with cannabis-specific curricula would be the equivalent to one (1) Continuing Education Unit.

A contact hour is one (1) clock hour of interaction between a learner and instructor, or between a learner and materials, which have been prepared to cause training. Contact implies a connection between a learner and a training source. For purposes of the CEU, that connection is two (2) ways, that is, the instructor or training source must monitor all the learner’s progress and/or provide some form of feedback to the learner during education.

This definition applies to face-to-face interaction as well as virtual online training programs. The CEU will not be awarded for learning activities in which individuals are engaged in unplanned, unsupervised, or non-sponsored learning. The following learning activities are examples of types of activities to include when calculating “contact hours” for CEU’s:

  • Engaging Training: Learning time led by an instructor and/or discussion leader.
  • Self-Paced Learning: Learner activities in which a learner is engaged in a planned program of learning where the learner’s progress is monitored & receives feedback.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Learner assessment & their own training evaluation.

It is important that Green CulturED is responsible for calculating CEU’s for learning events monitors the learning events for any changes. Reassessment should also take place in the event of a major change to training content, method of delivery, change in your equipment, software, or demographic audience. The calculation of CEU’s will be consistent and accurate at all times to ensure learners are receiving the appropriate number of CEU’s for training.
