Ohio Food Safety Handler Training
he Ohio Person-In-Charge (PIC) Certification in Food Protection, formerly known as Level One Certification, is a foundational training program that equips food service professionals with essential knowledge and skills to maintain high standards of food safety. This certification is required for individuals designated as the person in charge during each shift at food service operations or retail food establishments across risk levels I, II, III, and IV.
The PIC certification course offers a comprehensive introduction to key food safety principles, focusing on personal hygiene, time and temperature control, cross-contamination prevention, cleaning and sanitizing, and foodborne illness awareness. Emphasizing personal cleanliness and appropriate attire, the course covers proper handwashing techniques to prevent contamination. Participants learn the critical importance of maintaining correct temperatures during food storage, preparation, and service to inhibit bacterial growth.
In addition, they explore methods for preventing cross-contamination, implementing effective strategies to keep harmful pathogens from transferring between surfaces or food items. The course also provides training on cleaning and sanitizing practices, ensuring a safe environment by using effective methods for cleaning equipment, utensils, and surfaces. Finally, participants are introduced to common foodborne pathogens, learning about their sources and symptoms to prevent potential outbreaks.
The course is designed to be engaging and interactive, blending multimedia elements like videos, real-world scenarios, and quizzes to reinforce learning. The online training format allows participants flexibility to study at their own pace and convenience. Content is presented in straightforward language, making it accessible to individuals with various levels of food service experience.
Upon completing the training modules, participants must pass a knowledge assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the material. Successful candidates receive an official Ohio Person In Charge Food Safety certificate, which can be printed immediately and reflects their commitment to food safety excellence. Achieving the PIC certification not only fulfills regulatory requirements but also empowers food service professionals to create safer dining environments.
